There’s no shortage of amazing seafood in Cocoa Beach.
You can pop into a local market for something fresh, or you can get a pole and catch something yourself. If you don’t feel like going through the hustle and bustle of preparing something at home, there’s also a number of restaurants that each have their own delicious way of preparing the fruits of the sea.
In Downtown CB, there’s a great variety of seafood options for every palate and price range. One of our favorite places is Jazzy’s Mainely Lobster, which brings the flavors of New England right here to Cocoa Beach. Originally a wholesale business, they used to provide Maine-sourced lobsters to a number of local establishments. Luckily for us, in 2010 they made the switch to retail. Since then, visitors and locals alike have the luxury of dining on lobsters, clams, mussels, crab cakes, and oysters from up north as well as local catches like grouper or snapper. You can dine in or buy fresh to take home. Talk about spoiled!
Let’s start with the star of the show: lobster. If you’ve never tackled a whole one before, be prepared- there’s work involved. Jazzy’s sets you up right though, with crackers, bibs, and butter. Each sweet morsel is a little reward for your cracking efforts. If getting your hands dirty isn’t your style, definitely go for the lobster roll. This thing is as big as your head, and bursting with flavor. Lightly tossed in mayo and loaded up on a perfectly toasted bun, this behemoth of sandwich could double up as lunch and dinner. For the least work and the most flavor, Jazzy’s can even send you home with just lobster meat to do with what you will.
Beyond lobster, Jazzy’s is a crustacean-lover’s paradise.
Ever hear of steamers? If not, try something new. These clams come out by the pound, and after a quick removal of skin from their ‘leg’, you give them a swirl in hot water to remove any excess grit, dunk it in butter, and then pop it in your mouth. Heaven. You can also get the whole-belly clams fried, and with a spritz of lemon you’ll be eating them like popcorn. Jazzy’s gets oysters flown in regularly as well, and because they only get what’s most fresh, customers get to try new varieties almost weekly. The staff there is happy to shuck them for you, or you can buy them to go and dine on them in the comfort of your own home.
Oh, don’t think we forgot the quintessential New England staple. Jazzy’s clam chowder is the stick-to-your-ribs style, thick and absolutely packed with clams and potatoes. Add some oyster crackers and a dash of hot sauce, and you might decide to skip the second course for another round of soup. Honestly, it’s that good.
Many of the meals at Jazzy’s are served in baskets, and is some of the best fried fare in town. Guests pick between fish, clams, shrimp or scallops paired with crispy french fries and creamy cole slaw. Do not miss out on the hushpuppies either. Eating from a basket on Jazzy’s airy patio with your choice of a craft Maine or Florida brew is really as good as it gets.
If everything on the menu looks too good to choose from, have no fear.
Just go for the Captain’s Platter. There’s a little something for everyone on there, and you can pick your favorite for next time. Because once you go to Jazzy’s Mainely Lobster, there will definitely be a next time.
